IceCaps Summer Updates

Jets top prospects development camp, which runs from July 9th – 13th. Several IceCaps players from the ’11-’12 season were in attendance:

07/1/2012 Derek Meech re-signed with Winnipeg.

The 28 year old Winnipeg native  played in two games with the Jets recording no points, 2 minor penalties and a +/- 1 rating. Injury ridden, he played just 6 regular season games with the IceCaps recording two assists. Meech was outstanding in the post-season, where he had 4 goals and 5 assists in 15 games.

07/1/2012 Jason King re-signed with the St. John’s.

The Corner Brook, Newfoundland native played in 70 games for the IceCaps last season where he scored 22 goals, 19 assists, and registered 34 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 15 Calder Cup Playoff games, collecting four points (2g, 2a) and 13 penalty minutes.

King was named the IceCaps’ 2011-12 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year for his contributions to the community.

07/6/2012 Jets signed G Mark Dekanich

Dekanich, 26, played 5 games with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL  last season before having ankle surgery forcing him to miss the remainder of the season.

He played one game with the Nashville Predators in 2010. He will challenge Eddie Pasquale as the starter for the IceCaps this upcoming season.

07/6/2012 Ben Maxwell re-signed with Winnipeg

Maxwell, 24, posted one goal and four assists in nine games with the Jets last season. He spent most of the year with the IceCaps.  In 43 regular season games with the ‘Caps, he registered 25 points, along with 7 playoff points in 15 games.

07/6/2012: St. John’s re-signed John Albert and Jake Marto

Albert, 23, played in 64 games with St. John’s last season recording 27 points (9G, 18) and 28 penalty minutes. In 15 Calder Cup playoff games he scored 3 goals and 2 assists, along with 4 minor penalties.

Marto, 25, played in 12 games with the IceCaps last season where he recorded three assists. Played the majority of the season with the IceCaps ECHL affiliate Colorado Eagles, where he earned 16 points (2G, 14A) and 12 penalty minutes.

07/6/2012: IceCaps signed free agents Ryan Schnell and Hunter Tremblay

6’3, 225 pound Schnell played 12 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season where he earned one assist and 46 penalty minutes. He also played in 18

games with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers for four assists and 108 penalty minutes.

Last season in 68 games with the Oklahoma City Barons, Tremblay registered 31 points (16G, 15A) with 47 penalty minutes.  He also appeared in eight Calder Cup Playoff games for six points (4G, 2A).

07/13/2012: Winnipeg re-signs Paul Postma

Postma, 23, played in 56 games with the IceCaps last season where he lit the lamp 13 times and added 31 assists, placing him behind Spencer Machacek for the team lead. He appeared in 15 Calder Cup Playoff games and collected 10 points (1G, 9A) and 14 penalty minutes.

He led all IceCaps defenceman in scoring during the regular season and playoffs.

Marco Rosa – Signed with the Espoo Blues of the SM-liiga in Finland
