Odds of post-season & cup win for the Jets

The NHL season is almost upon us and that means the long summer wait is over. It also means that the odds on the upcoming NHL season have been released and now is the time you could make some money. Our beloved Winnipeg Jets are showing a 3.42 payout to make the playoffs as opposed to a 1.27 to not make the playoffs. Not good news if you’re a fan and believe the expert odds makers.

A look at some of the other odds show last season’s Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins at 1.07 to make the playoffs and 7.00 to not be in the post-season. In other words, it’s almost a guarantee that they’ll both see action in late-April.

No surprise to Calgary Flames fans, they’re predicted to be outside – far outside – looking in this April with the worst odds of making the playoffs at a 5.04 to make and 1.14 to miss. Even Edmonton Oilers fans should be excited posting a respectable 1.78 to make the playoffs, though it’s almost even money regardless the bet you make if they miss at 1.93.

If we dig even further into the futures betting, the Chicago Blackhawks are the favorites to win the cup. It’d be the first time since the 1997-98 Detroit Red Wings linked together back-to-back championships. That said, the Penguins aren’t far back as favorites to hoist the cup in 2014. Our beloved Jets odds to win the cup outright come in at 53.00 so maybe putting down $5 wouldn’t be so bad, though still a far reach. And as we know, the odds rarely work out the way they’re predicted.

Puck drop is barely a day away on the 2013-14 NHL season and as fans first, we couldn’t be more excited. Who do you think will hoist the cup at the end of the season? And possibly more importantly, how will our beloved Winnipeg Jets end up in April? Let us know in the comments below.
