There’s not a day that goes by that peggers don’t check the news or their favorite site to see if a team name has been announced yet. The majority of polls out there have “Jets” as the overwhelming favorite for a team name. That comes of little surprise as the history and memories routed deep in all of us scream Jets and nothing else.
Well for all of you that want the Jets back I have some good news for you. The longer that we go without an announcement the better chance we have of the team being called the Jets, now let me explain to you why.
If Mark Chipman and TNSE wanted to go with the Jets originally it would have been a simple decision and we would have heard about it by now, heck we might have even heard about it at the Press Conference announcing the purchase. The only reason it’s being considered now is because of the public response so good on everyone for making their voices heard in this very important matter.
The process has taken longer then TNSE anticipated is a great sign. What that means is that they had to change their plan and rethink things. This happened in Colorado when they wanted to call the team “Rocky Mountain eXtreme”. It was public outcry at this ridiculous name that forced the owners to abandon their plan and go back to the drawing board.
It was then the owners selected 8 names and had a fan poll to choose the eventual team name Colorado Avalanche. For some time it wasn’t even sure if the team would be Colorado or Denver… Sound familiar?
Now I’m not saying that this whole Winnipeg Whiteout scare was ever in TNSE list of names but that response may have helped open their eyes to the public outcry they would face if they chose a name other then the Jets. Regardless of what caused it they’ve obviously changed directions from their original approach and that is why we won’t know the team name until sometime after the NHL entry draft.
TNSE will be in the process of looking into every ramification of using the name and not using the name Jets and you can bet one of the biggest road blocks is that the original Jets history will still be in Phoenix or wherever that franchise ends up. They likely have other factors like wanting to start their own brand or continue the one they created in the Moose, factoring profitability and ultimately what will be in the best interest for the franchise 20 years from now.
Trust me when I say the longer we wait the better the chances are that we’ll get the Jets back.
Become an MVP with Winnipeg Whiteout and never miss a thing.
