October 22, 1995: Road woes Continue for Jets in Anaheim

Winnipeg remained winless on the road last night falling to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks 6-2 at the Duck Pond. Yet again the Jets looked completely lost on the road, falling to 0-3 and being outscored 16-7 in those three games.

Winnipeg outshot the home team and played some good hockey last night but undisciplined play really made this game a struggle for Winnipeg taking 30 minutes in penalties againstAnaheim’s 1 minor penalty. The first period was played almost equally if not, slightly in the Jets favour. The teams traded goals with Ed Olczyk scoring for Winnipeg on a crosss crease feed from Keith Tkachuk, and Peter Douris tying the game for Anaheim. Winnipeg had their chances to take the lead early in the second, slumping sniper Teemu Selanne had two break away chances within the first 5 minutes but was stopped by Ducks goalie Guy Hebert on the first, and fired wide on the second. The Jets looked deflated after this, taking 5 straight minor penalties. Winnipeg killed the penalties valiantly until the last, when Paul Kariya finally broke the tie and put Anaheim ahead. Chad Kilger added another in the final minute off a feed from Kariya on a 2-1 that Tim Cheveldae had no chance on.

In the third period Winnipeg attempted to pour on the pressure, but had trouble solving Hebert. Out of the 17 shots they threw on net, the only one to get through Hebert was a wrister from in tight by Keith Tkachuk 10 minutes in. The Comeback was not to be however as Anaheim scored just a minute later, Garry Valk getting the first of his two, followed by an empty netter by Paul Kariya which put the final stake in the Jets coffin.

Tim Cheveldae allowed 5 goals on 37 shots for the loss falling to 1-3-2. Guy Hebert was spectacular for Anaheim making 45 saves on Winnipegs 47 shots to get the win. Keith Tkachuk had a goal and an assist giving him 7 points in his last 3. Winnipeg stays in California to take on the San Jose Sharks October 25th.
