With a press conference scheduled for 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 6th the long wait will soon be over and fans will finally get a glimpse of the true Winnipeg Jets 2011 NHL jersey. There have been knock offs flooding the market already and thankfully the RCMP seized over $12,000 of these at the Canadian border. You know how we felt about anyone that bought these knock offs so if you lost your money we don’t feel sorry for you.
When True North was asked to comment about that jersey design, Scott Brown told the press that they weren’t even close.
The above image is simply a CONCEPT of what we feel the final design will be closer too. The fact that the announcement is coming from the RCAF Base Wing 17 isn’t surprising given the direction True North has gone so far. We think it’s a bit of a tip off that the jerseys like the logo will have a twist on the RCAF jerseys.
The image to the right is the jersey the Manitoba Moose used in a game and also the same jersey design that was pictured on the brand image from Rebook when the logo was released.
We’ve used this as the basis for our concept as we feel that it will likely be the inspiration for the jersey that is released on Tuesday. And yes that likely means a light blue home jersey, not the dark blue that most anticipated. Which also would fit Scott’s statement of not being anywhere close if the main color is different.
We know there is going to be no red in the jersey other than in the logo, so it’s likely that silver will be used instead. When you look at the Jets official website there are a few clues possibly as well to the look of the jersey.
Of the other teams that have striping on their background image, (Chicago, Vancouver, Phoenix, New York Islanders and the New York Rangers) it is the same striping that appears on the bottom of their jersey so while it’s not 100% it is likely a safe bet that the silver, dark blue, light blue, dark blue will be the striping on the bottom of the jersey so we used that pattern for our concept.
The rest of the striping we took from the RCAF jersey and used the silver instead of the red, with dark blue for the shoulders but it would not surprise us if those were silver as well.
The last element was the logos, while it would not surprise us to see a third jersey eventually with the word-mark logo on it, it’s a safe bet that the primary logo is going to be the only logo used on the front of the jersey. As Mark Chipman stated previously the secondary logo will be used up on the shoulders so I’d say it’s a safe bet to put those there.
While this is simply our best guess, we do feel pretty confident based on what we’ve heard from True North and how they’ve developed their brand that these should be fairly close to what their final version is. The good news is we only have to wait a few more days until they are released, which then begs the question, will they be leaked before then?
Our guess is no, after the leak of the logo you can bet that they’ll be very diligent on keeping the jersey under wraps until the unveiling Tuesday morning. They are likely to still not be available in stores for a few days after the release so it’s unlikely that someone with nothing to lose will get a peak and the chance to snap a quick pick and post it online.
There might be more of a reason for the press conference taking place on a military base.
If it leaks this time we’ll be very surprised, until then like you we’re counting down the hours. Of course, you can always pre-order your official authorized jerseys.
