JETBLAST - New York Islanders
JETBLAST - Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg Jets (11-11-4) at New York Islanders (8-13-3)

6:00 p.m., Nassau Vetrans Memorial Coliseum TV: TSNJets, MSG Plus 2 Radio: TSN 1290, WRHU 88.7 FM

Winnipeg continues their Eastern swing Wednesday night when they visit the New york Islanders on the Long Island. the last time these two teams met was near the end of last season when the Islanders beat the Jets 5-4 and all but eliminated the Jets from the playoff race. In the short time since the Jets returned to the NHL they have had problems with the Islanders, who have been anything but a quality team. The Islanders seem to have the Jets number, often jumping on the Winnipeg D and getting a ton of quality scoring chances. No matter how these games go the Jets and Islanders match ups have been exciting so grab a spot on the couch and strap in!

In their last season before moving to Brooklyn the Islanders have once again been a bit of a disappointment, at 5 games under .500 the Islanders have been unable to play consistently or string wins together. That being said they are in the weakest division in the NHL right now and are only 5 points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Islanders are in tough defending goals, the defence is not all that strong and they have a young inexperienced goaltender. Where the Islanders excel is the other side of the ice, the Islanders have so much skill up front, starting with John Tavares, a olympic lock, and right through. The Islanders are full of fast and skilled goal scorers. If you get into track meet with this team and trade chances you will be in tough. The Islanders will look to open up a game and if they are able to do that they become a threat in any game.

Winnipeg continues their road trip Wednesday in Long Island. Though their are no easy games in the NHL, this stretch the Jets are playing in the Metropolitan division is going to be about as easy as it gets so they have to get their two points. Monday night the Jets did not paint a masterpiece, however they earned a win in New Jersey. They won the game for the better part of two periods, but the third period was ugly. The Jets were dominated, gave up a goal and if not for Ondrej Pavelec, it could have been a few more and that game may have gotten away from Winnipeg. If they take time off and play in this game as they did in the third against Jersey the Jets will get scored on and they will lose. Winnipeg has to play their tight, smart defensive game. Combine that with the offence that includes all 4 lines and the Jets will be successful tonight, as well as this road trip.

Keys to the Game

Build on Monday: The Winnipeg Jets got a big road win to start their 6 game trip. It was not the best effort but they got the W, raise your play and keep it going.

Don’t give goals away: The Islanders do not have the most skill in their lineup, but they do have a lot of offensive talent, the Jets cannot turn it over and create chances for the Islanders or they will be in trouble.

101: Ondrej Pavelec got his 100th career win Monday in Jersey and he earned it. The Jets require that kind of game from Pavvy every night, and if they get, his total will keep climbing.
