JETBLAST - Winnipeg Jets

Montreal Canadiens (3-2-0) at Winnipeg Jets (3-3-0)

7:00 p.m., MTS Center TV: TSN Jets, TSN Habs, RDS Radio: TSN 1290, TSN 690,

The first team who the new incarnation of the Jets ever played returns to Winnipeg for this out of conference matchup. Both teams are coming off wins and looking to build on that success. Montreal is coming in after beating Vancouver Saturday night on HNIC. Winnipeg on the other hand broke their 3 game losing streak with a 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils. The two teams with the loudest fans in the NHL get together in Winnipeg, it is sure to be battle.

For the Canadiens it is all about Carey Price. The team that went nearly from worst to first in a season is led by their top goaltender. Price is trying to prove he has a place on the Olympic team and has been putting up good numbers so far this season. If you are going to beat Montreal you are going to have to play strong defence because you will not score many goals. Up front the Canadiens have been pretty similar over the last few season besides their two young sophmores Brendan Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk. These two provide some youth and excitement to this team and combined with P.K. Subban and rookie Jarred Tinordi on defence their is a strong young core for years to come.

Winnipeg seemed to finally put together a strong overall effort against New Jersey to break their 3 game losing streak on Saturday. However, New Jersey is a weak opponenent and the Jets will need to improve to get wins against better teams, including Montreal. Claude Noel, the Jets third year coach, is drawing some pretty strong reviews on his new line combinations that appear to be sticking at least for another game. Noel made the bold move to change almost every line he had going into Saturdays tilt with the Devils, and it paid off. Noel spread the wealth and the Jets responded with a big win and a pretty decent performance. They will need a better one and strong home crowd to be able to pick up their second win in a row.

Keys to the Game

Evander Kane: There is no argument to make, Evander Kane has been the Jets most consistent and best player this season. He has beat defenders with his speed, his smarts, and his skill. Kane is this teams top offensive player and if he is on, the Jets will score and compete but if Kane picks the wrong game to take a night off it could prove to be disastrous for this Winnipeg Jets team.

Pavvy: It is already an old story but in a game where it will be tough to get goals on the board yourself, you must be able to keep them off. As well as responding to the game Al Montoya had, Pavelec will prove himself the starter and have a huge game if the Jets wish to compete.

Composure: The Jets need to play smart, no unnecessary chances, no mistakes, no bad penalties. The Canadiens are too good and if the Jets get wrapped up in emotion they will be in trouble. Play smart and play safe, take advantage of your chances, do your jobs and you will have a chance.
