Penguins Fall on Ice

B.C. Boys get it done: IceCaps down Penguins 3-2 in Game 7 to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals vs. the Norfolk Admirals

In a series that every game was won by less than two goals and featured three straight overtimes, Game 7 was the game to watch.

Game 7 Recap

John Albert fed a crisp cross-crease pass to B.C. native Raymond Sawada, who buried his third of the playoffs past a sprawled Brad Thiessen with 8:08 left in the first.

After a turnover on the Penguins blue-line by the IceCaps, Eric Tangradi passed the puck to Pens Captain Ryan Craig who sprung free on a breakaway and scored short-side on Pasquale.

As the IceCaps were regaining momentum from a penalty kill following the Craig goal, Quesnel, B.C’s Aaron Gagnon took a puck down low and came on front of the net and managed to find the pack of the net, as Thiessen was moving, the puck went five-hole to put the IceCaps up 2-1.

Just 53 seconds into the third period, Aaron Gagnon`s shot through traffic from the left boards bet Thiessen, for his second of the night and eventual game-winner.

A powerplay goal by Colin McDonald at 9:36 was as close as the Penguins would get, as the IceCaps held on for a 3-2 win and series victory. The last two minutes of the game, fans were standing on their feet, cheering on the home team. The Whiteout was a great success, as the arena was shrouded in a blanket of white like a new fallen snow. The fans really came though in Game 7, shouting and cheering as loud as ever, but one player heard his name the most. The Eddie Pasquale chants were back and loud as ever: “Eddie’s better!” and “Eddie! Eddie! Eddie!”

Pasquale made 25 saves for the IceCaps, while Brad Thiessen stopped 25 shots for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Pasquale has played all 11 games for the team, recording a 2.22 GAA and a 0.927 SV%
