I’m hoping that by now most of your Christmas shopping is done. If not, then stop reading – this will be here after. 2011 is coming to an end and a lot has gone on the past year. Of course, one of the best parts of the year started for us, and all Jets’ fans, at the end of May. The official announcement of the NHL returning to Winnipeg.
Since then a lot has changed for us. Our site gained a huge following when we blatantly fabricated a story about the new name of the team in Winnipeg. We learned A LOT from that experience and made some great contacts as well. We regularly covered all sorts of stories and speculation over the summer.
In fact we managed to connect with two awesome writers that regularly contribute to our Winnipeg Jets blog. Davide Capone, who always puts a great twist on Jets’ stories. And Charles Dart, our brave, and so far only IceCaps writer. If you like to write, we encourage you to check out our current job postings.
We released a mobile app to the Android Marketplace, a BlackBerry App and have had our iPhone App consistently rejected by the Apple App Store. We haven’t given up though and are working on a few different fixes to hopefully get that out in 2012. And yes, all of our apps are being worked on for a new version.
When the Jets schedule was released we mapped out a road trip and had the crazy idea to turn it into a documentary. We’re still editing the hours and hours of footage, but you can share some of our daily experiences we had over the 14 day adventure.
It was during the filming of JET FUEL that we got our inspiration for Offside Gear – unofficial fan merchandise. It’s free to join and we’ve released some really cool designs so far. Go check it out…but be sure to come back and keep reading.
With the release of our weekly email newsletter this week, we launched a new design to help supplement the other Internet properties we’ve created and of course, become a more useful resource to our readers. Last week the first official episode of our Winnipeg Jets hockey podcast was released, and by the end of this week another one will be as well. Our 24×7 toll-free number went in to service at 1.855.321.JETS (1.855.321.5387) – that’s right, it has JETS in it – pretty cool.
Just yesterday we released the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Network – what we’re hoping to turn in to a centralized one-stop-shop for all your Jets headlines. We need your help filling it with the right sources, so I ask you please leave a comment on this story below with some of the places you go to read about the Jets so we can make it great for you in 2012 and for years to come.
And of course, thank you for reading and being a part of our site. We have some exciting ideas for 2012 that we’re slowly working on and our biggest focus will be on building and growing our community of regular readers and contributors. Thank you all.
