A few hours ago the leaked image of some Jets merchandise started to circulate around the web. We were quick to recreate the logo deign to give you a better look at the alleged logo. After that we immediately started to do some homework to see if we could prove or disprove this as legitimate.
While the below is only our speculation we believe that this leaked photo is of actual licensed NHL merchandise. We went through every shirt that was for sale in the NHL store and believe we found the style that was represented in the image. We’ve used our Photoshop skills to recreate the leaked photo onto the NHL images and aside from our JETS font being slightly different it gives you a good idea of what the full shirt in the photo would have looked like.
What makes us believe that the photo is legit is that the font used is the exact font used by the designs for the other teams on the NHL store. There’s always the possibility that it’s a knock off but normally a knock off will have some slight variations in the font and we can not see one with the part of the photo that is revealed to us.
So if we are correct in that this leaked image is actual licensed merchandise then we have to ask the question is that what the Jets logo will be on the jersey? Once again part of the research we did was looking at the logo used on the shirt vs the logo used on the jerseys. There was only one team we were able to find that did not use their primary logo on this style of shirt and that was the Minnesota Wild.
However though it should also be noted that the Wild now use this alternate logo on their primary home jerseys, while using the primary logo on the road, so one could argue the fact that the logo used on their shirt is actually their primary logo.
Based on these facts we believe that this indeed will be the primary logo for the new Jets if we are also correct in saying that the image is of licensed NHL merchandise. It’s a bold claim to make and one we don’t make lightly but also one we make and urge caution when we say that we’ve been wrong before but we’ve also been right before. Until True North announces the logo this will all be speculation and rumour and best guesses based on the facts above.
