Today is the day when 30 GM’s get no sleep in attempts to acquire the assets they feel will make their team Stanley Cup champions either this season or down the road.
We’ve talked about what the Jets may or may not do today but here we will break down each deal as it happens with the effect it will have on Winnipeg.
By 4pm Central time we’ll know if Rick Nash got moved, did Toronto acquire a goalie or other players that may help them regain 8th place and what other moves were made by the teams fighting with the Jets.
As the deadline has come and gone the Jets made a waiver claim picking up D Grant Clitsome from Columbus and traded away D Johnny Oduya to the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2nd and 3rd round pick in this years entry draft. If the Jets are to make the playoffs it will be with the players they have had all year, time will tell if it was the right move but I’m pretty happy about it.

To VancouverF Andrew Gordon |
To AnahiemD Sebastian Erixon |
And with that trade deadline is over and it was as uneventful as any trade deadline has ever been.

To VancouverF Zach Kassian |
To BuffaloF Cody Hodgson |
Interesting that former Moose and highly touted prospect Cody Hodgson gets moved but has little bearing on the Jets

To TorontoD Mark Fraser |
To AnahiemF Dale Mitchell |
Mark Fraser adds some depth to the blue line in Toronto but it’s unlikely to shake the Buds from their slump.

Little to no influence on the Jets

To BostonD Greg Zanon |
To MinnesotaD Steve Kampfer |
The only way this has any effect on the Jets is if they face the Bruins in the playoffs as Zanon gives them a reliable shot blocking presence on the back-end of their rotation.

To BostonF Brian Rolston |
To New York IslandersF Yannick Riendeau |
Interesting to see the Bruins take on Rolston’s contract in a trade when he was waived earlier. Other than that he gives the B’s some scoring depth that could bite the Jets if they meet in the playoffs.

To Buffalo1st round pick (2012) |
The Sabre’s got the first rounder they wanted for Gaustad, which is likely why the Jets didn’t make a move on a similar type player.

To ChicagoD Johnny Oduya |
There’s no surprise that Johnny O was traded away. This was the worst kept secret out there that he would be the one to likely be traded away. With the Jets depth on the blue line, this trade will likely have minimal impact on the current season, however look for those draft picks to come in handy.

To VancouverF Sami Pahlsson |
To Columbus4th round pick (2012) |
No reason to even talk about this deal, it’s about as exciting for Jets fans as the trade deadline was for hockey fans.

To OttawaD Matt Gilroy |
To Tampa BayD Brian Lee |
The Jets are chasing the Sens but they are most likely out of reach. Acquiring Matt Gilroy gives them some more depth on the back end.

To ColoradoF Jamie McGinn |
An all Western conference trade this may be of note to Jets fans simply because it was the biggest (number of pieces moved) of the day.

To TorontoF Carter Ashton |
To Tampa BayD Keith Aulie |
The Winnipeg born Carter Ashton should be a nice player for the Leafs in a few years but he’s got little to do with the outcome of the Leafs seasons this year.

To WinnipegD Grant Clitsome |
To ColumbusWAIVERS |
With the appearance of Jack Johnson in Columbus, Clitsome’s time came to an end. It would appear through the acquisition of an offensively minded defenseman that rumours of Johnny Oduya being traded are coming closer to reality.

Possibility that Schultz may make it to Winnipeg in time for tonight’s game. Otherwise this has no bearing on the Jets.

To DetroitConditional 7th Round Pick (2013) |
This deal has little effect on the Jets, the Lighting have fallen far enough behind that if the Jets have to worry about dropping below them they have bigger issues.

This deal has little effect on the Jets other than to confirm that Montreal has given up this season.
