The Jets are in the playoff hunt, but they may be losing sight of eighth, and as for third place, well, we can forget that. We have 9 games left, and lets just hope they were able to take down the Pens (this was written before that game). If they were unsuccessful, then making the playoffs become that much more tough, and if they beat ‘em, then we are one step closer. Only three games remain in the our barn and with only 11 road wins all year this journey is up hill to say the least. Here are my predictions for the next nine games.
Friday March 23rd @ Washington Capitals
This is the team we are chasing, the Jets have proven they can beat them. Our record vs the Caps is 3-1-1. Not bad against a team that has some of the most offensive fire power in the league.
Jets take this one 5-3
Saturday March 24th @ Nashville Predators
We haven’t seen this team all year. They sit fourth in the west with 92 points. They have a solid goalie and they have also notched 23 wins at home, just like the Jets.
Jets lose in a shootout, 3-2
Monday March 26th vs Ottawa Senators
We have split the season series with the boys from the nation’s capital. They are 5-3-2 in their last 10 and are beatable. The Leafs showed that on Saturday night. I have a feeling the boo birds will be in full effect for Alfie and Spezza.
Jets win big at home 5-1
Wednesday March 29th vs New York Rangers
Good luck, all the crowd noise in the world isn’t going to help us here. With that being said, the Rangers may take it easy considering they have locked up a playoff spot and are 10 points in the clear of second. But I doubt it
Jets lose 4-2
Friday March 30th @ Carolina Hurricanes
The Jordan’s better chant may haunt us once again. The Canes have been playing spoiler lately having won three in a row. Pavelec needs to play well to play well to give us a shot in this one.
Jets win 3-2 in OT
Saturday March 31st @ Tampa Bay Lightning
We are 3-1 against these guys, but for some reason we collapse the third period. We have been atrocious in back-to-back games this season and in the late stages of the year, I cant see that changing.
Jets lose 5-1
Tuesday April 3rd @ Florida Panthers
With Versteeg back in the line up that just means one more problem for the Jets to deal with. They have won four in a row and if they can keep up their winning ways then it will be tough.
Jets lose 2-1
Thursday April 5th @ New York Islanders
If the Jets are still in the playoff race I would be surprised. The Isles have had our number twice this year and we beat them once in New York. Tavares has had a great season, but the Jets can handle him
Jets win 6-3
Saturday April 7th vs Tampa Bay Lighting
This one will be emotional. It’s may be the last game of the year or it could be a win and you’re in situation. The Jets are one of the best home teams in the league. The crowd will play a factor in this game, I have no doubt.
Jets dominate 7-3.
If my predictions come true, which is very unlikely, the Jets will finish the season with anywhere between 85 and 87 points depending on how they did in Steeltown. The odds of them making it with those numbers are slim to none. The two teams we are chasing in Buffalo and Washington have similar schedules to Winnipeg in terms of difficulty, but I feel that they have more depth and know what it takes to get the job done. I know I probably have some haters out there for saying the Jets are going to be hitting the links come April long weekend, but who can blame me? We are awful in third periods, we have 11 road wins, and our back-to-back game situations are embarrassing. No one expected them to do this well anyway. On the bright side, we have our team back, the Leafs are out of the playoffs, and Bomber season is around the corner. Cheers!
