For those of you that tuned into Coaches Corner during Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals, Don Cherry asked two questions that are on all of our minds… What will the team be called and what are you going to do about the Queen?
Well to no ones surprise Chipman did not reveal a team name but he did shed some light on the Queen’s Portrait that hung for all those years in the Winnipeg Arena. The long and the short of it is, no she will not be coming back… or will she?
While Chipman was very clear that there just wasn’t any room for her in the MTS Centre due to blocking sight lines and answered the question with the utmost politicial correctness, we at Winnipeg White Out were able to find out that The Queen may be heading back to Winnipeg anyways.
“I’ve had a conversation today which is very exciting and points to that but I can’t say anything yet,” Anya Wilson, the current custodian of the portrait, told Canadian Press. “It’s just an inquiry but, if it develops, I think everyone in Winnipeg will be very happy.”
So while we know the Queen won’t be watching the home opener live and will miss her first Winnipeg NHL game ever, she may just be in the city afterall.
